Our Art, Craft & Design students had an inspiring visit to Northumbria University, where they explored the future of sustainable fashion through the innovative REYA: Reuse Yarn project. A student said: "As the UK online fashion market is set to hit £43bn by 2027 - and Gen Z as it's forefront - we learnt how sustainable dyeing methods can help close the gap between environmental values and fast-fashion habits." They had the opportunity to take part in masterclasses in knitwear design, they experimented with colour, texture and form before refining their ideas into fully realised garments alongside professional designers and educators. The final collection showcased the potential of REYA yarn-blending technique to deliver vibrant, repeatable colour with a far lower environmental impact. A fantastic opportunity for our learners to engage with industry-standard processes and envision a more sustainable future for fashion.
