Today is National Supported Internship Day! Supported internships help 16-24 year-olds with disabilities, under an EHCP, transition into employment by providing real workplace experience and tailored coaching. As person-centred programmes, they match interns' skills with potential jobs post-internship, with the support of job coaches. These coaches also assist employers in creating inclusive work environments. A heartfelt thanks to all participating employers and dedicated College job coaches for empowering our interns through invaluable work exposure and life skills training.

Meet Katie. Katie is one of our many support interns, and after attending a trial at the Quayside restaurant, she loved it! After a month at the restaurant, they offered her permanent employment at the business. Zoe, the Joint Owner said: “The supported internship programme is wonderful as it gives you the chance to try out a person’s skills beforehand. We would recommend it to other employers. Katie has done amazing here and has even completed a good hygiene safety course with us.” #nationalsupportedinternshipday2024 #nationalsupportedinternshipday

We would like to say a thank you to Jo Wealans, Children's Wellbeing Practitioner, Dr Markku Wood, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and Jacqui Dixon, Senior Project Officer, from North East and North Cumbria NHS for joining us for last week's #FuturesFriday session. Their "Workforce Psychology" session provided invaluable insights through engaging discussions and interactive presentations, deepening our students' understanding of mental well-being, healthcare, and their relationship with each other. As our #FuturesFriday initiative continues to evolve, we're indebted to individuals like Jo, Dr. Wood and Jacqui for their contributions. Our Culinary Arts students are out experiencing the gastronomic and innovative culture of southern Italy’s food heritage. The birthplace of the Margherita pizza and Limoncello, and not to mention its Pasticcera delights. They’ve also seen Pompeii and Vesuvius whilst on their trip, also sampling some of the best restaurants in Naples. We certainly don’t do things by halves in Hospitality at Newcastle College University Centre 🇮🇹
