If you've seen our posts over the last few days, you'll know we've been celebrating Industry Week, welcoming hundreds of employers into the college to provide engaging workshops, live briefs, competitions and more to our students.
But... our students haven’t just been learning on campus, they’ve also been out and about, gaining real-world experience through off-site visits and hands-on industry activities. Lets take a look at some of what they’ve been up to:
✅ Hospitality students took part in a community litter pick, learning how a clean environment impacts the hospitality industry, followed by an insightful talk from the Hilton Hotel Group.
✅ SMILE Through Sport delivered workshops on adapting PE for disabled students, covering disability awareness and inclusive coaching techniques.
✅ Sport and Uniformed Services students joined the Newcastle Rugby Foundation at Kingston Park for rugby coaching and career insights in sport, marketing, and business management.
✅ A HIIT session at PureGym gave Spor students a firsthand look at life as a personal trainer in the active leisure industry.
✅ Over 120 Sport, Law and Policing students took part in St John Ambulance workshops, learning Street First Aid and exploring careers in the third sector.
✅ An inspiring session with Thibaut Degenne saw students crafting bespoke furniture and working together to build a Da Vinci bridge.
✅ A visit to TeamOpencast HQ saw students exploring Hoults Yard, learning about its transformation into a thriving business hub.
✅ Paul H. from Quixel gave an industry talk to Digital Tech students on realistic asset creation in Unreal Engine, including turning pancakes into 3D assets!
✅ Aviation students gained career insights from industry experts, exploring opportunities in the aviation sector.
✅ Over 120 Criminology students visited York Castle Museum, connecting their studies to real-world historical crime and justice.
✅ Policing students benefitted from hands-on policing scenarios including stop and search procedures, and historical forensics like fingerprinting!
✅ Rail students explored Mott MacDonald’s global rail projects, including upgrades to the Tyne and Wear Metro system, gaining insight into rail design challenges.
✅ Energy students connect with SSE Energy Solutions, focusing on heat networks and sustainable energy.
