As part of #CollegesWeek and #WomenInConstructionWeek, we are shining a spotlight on the next generation of skilled professionals. Sofia Evans is studying Level 2 Electrical at Kidderminster College. She chose this course because it is something she has wanted to do since secondary school. After enjoying physics and taking part in an electrical unit at school, she knew construction was the path she wanted to follow. With encouragement from her teachers, she decided to pursue it further. Since starting in September, Sofia has particularly enjoyed the practical sessions, developing hands on skills and building her confidence. She recently took part in the NCG Skills competition, an opportunity that allowed her to showcase what she has learned so far. She also credits the support from her tutor Ryan, who encouraged her to enter the competition and continues to support her progress. Her advice to other young women considering construction? “Do not worry about it being a male dominated industry. If you enjoy it, just go for it. You will not regret it. The course is for anyone. I hardly knew anything when I started, but I have gained a lot of knowledge along the way and it has been great fun.” It is fantastic to see more women choosing careers in construction and building their futures with #TeamKC. #CollegesWeek2026 #WomenInConstructionWeek
